So you're thinking of a destination wedding
What a decision to make! I'm sure there are so many hard decisions to make when planning a wedding, but in the end you gotta do what makes you happy...at least, that's what we believe.

Things to think about
1. Location Location Location. Whether you have your wedding 5 hours away by car or 5 hours by plane, it's all considered a destination wedding and should be planned specifically for your wedding needs.

2. Give your guests time to plan and save. We love the idea of a destination wedding, and it may be cheaper for you and your family to plan this type of wedding (or so they say). Either way, it's a good idea to give your guests lots of time to book vacation, travel and save money for your special day.

3. Local marriage laws. There may be lots of requirements to obtain a marriage license or there may be few. You gotta look into it. Some requirements could be residency, blood tests, immunization certificates, number of witnesses needed or other formal type documentation.

4. Your guest list. Who will most likely be able to attend your wedding and who won't? Will you have an after party for those who can't make it?

5. What is your budget and your guest's budget? This is a pretty big factor in deciding what your wedding will be like, since the world is your oyster...but I think it's also smart to provide options for your guests when it comes to flights, accommodations and any other expenses they should consider when budgeting. Disposable income is a myth to some.

6. What are the things to do and see at your location? Since you (and by "you" I mean the newlyweds) and your guests will probably have time to do things by themselves. This is a nice thing to do.

7. How much work do you want to do yourself? It makes sense to have someone local that will take care of all the details for you, or at least give you recommendations, but this is not always an option. There are details to think about, and decide if they're important to you, such as: flowers, the officiant, ceremony site, cake maker, music, photographer, videographer and decor. Wedding packages are available at some hotels and resorts which will cover most of these details...which sounds quite lovely to me.

8. Weather. Mother nature is unpredictable so planning a location option B, if you're thinking of an outdoor wedding, should be considered.

Supposedly, these are some of the top destination locations: Hawaii, Las Vegas, Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican Republic, Bahamas, USVI, Aruba, Cruise Ships, Europe (that's a general location), Florida and Fiji.

We, at blue skies and daisies, completely believe in doing things your own way. There are no rules to planning your wedding, other than HAVE FUN. Regardless of where you end up having your wedding, you MUST have fun at your wedding.
